Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sololá

I served in Sololá about six weeks at the end of my mission (May 26–July 7,1976) as companions with Elder Greg Sansom. Sisters Sharp, Butler, and Wheatly also served in Sololá during that time.

In April 1976, Brother Eb Davis from the Church translation department talked with me and other missionaries about translating Church materials into Cakchiquel. From April to July, I spent part of my time on translations while my companion studied Cakchiquel. Occasionally, I would meet with a translation team met in Patzún to work on translations.

In early July, our mission president, John O’Donnal, asked Elder David Frischknecht and me to end our proselyting work and work full-time on translations. On July 9, I returned to Patzicía and Elder David Frischknecht and I set up sleeping quarters in a cinderblock room in the corner of the Church lot next to the silo, and a translation office in room #4 of the church building. Elder Frischknecht did most of the translation and I did most of the typing.
